Sam McCallum completes transfer to Norwich City

Sam McCallum is Premier League bound after joining Norwich City on a 4-and-a-half-year deal. He will then return to Coventry City for the remainder of the 2019-20 season…congratulations Sam

Sam’s rise from non-league to Premier League has been nothing short of meteoric. Three seasons ago he was playing for Herne Bay in the Isthmian League, the eighth tier of English football. After leaving Gillingham’s youth set-up, the then 17-year-old was almost resigned to a future as a semi-professional at non-league level.

But it was while playing for England schoolboys that a coach saw his potential and took matters into his own hands to point the rapid left-back in the direction of Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy, that showcases non-league talent to league clubs.

During the week long camp, Sam sparked the interest of numerous football league clubs, but it was the Sky Blues who won the race for his signature in the Summer of 2018 and Sam quite literally hasn’t looked back.

Sam first came to prominence at Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy

In joining the Canaries Sam has become the V9’s first graduate to progress to the Premier League…that’s non-league to the Premier League in two seasons…that’s right TWO SEASONS, what a story!

He made his debut for the Sky Blues first team in the Checkatrade Trophy, going on in the 55th minute and making an immediate impact. That was closely followed by his league debut when he made another appearance from the bench v Southend in December 2018.

Sam’s full league debut came in January 2019 when he started and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon. He finished the season with 8 appearances in a Sky Blues shirt.

This season Sam has really established himself in the first team and has found the back of the net on 3 occasions including a stunning volley against MK Dons earlier in January. Sam’s quality has shone through this season, so much so that he has caught the eye of many Premier League managers including Canaries boss Daniel Farke.

This is just the beginning Sam, continue to Be Exceptional and who knows where it will take you!
