A first England Call-Up for Tyrone Mings
All at KeySports would like to congratulate Tyrone Mings on his first ever England call-up today.
Tyrone’s early season form for Villa has impressed England manager Gareth Southgate enough to name him in his 25-man squad for September’s UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
Ty will join up with fellow KeySports client, Liverpool’s Joe Gomez…what a defensive partnership that would be! Lets hope we get to see that in September.
Some players come on the scene at a young age and look destined for the top straight away. For others, it can be more of a gradual process. Tyrone Mings certainly falls into the latter category.
It has not always been plain sailing for Tyrone. Injuries and loss of form have meant that he has only featured in more than 20 league games in a season just once in his career (barring playoffs), when he played 40 times for Ipswich in the Championship back in 2014/15.
Last season he started 18 of Villa’s final 20 matches last season, playing a key role as they finished the season strongly and gained promotion via the play-off and Ty has never played better than he is right now.
He’s playing with confidence and confidence is an attribute which should never be underestimated in football, he is confident whenever he plays, marshalling the defence as if he has been part of it for years rather than a handful of months. His presence in the back four has had a calming influence on the club, making him a fan favourite at Villa Park.
And Gareth Southgate will be hoping he brings that confidence to the England camp as they look to maintain there strong to start to the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.
This call-up is no less than you deserve Ty, keep up the hard work and there will be many more to come.
Continue to be exceptional.
