The V9 Academy is back...

Jamie Vardy’s V9 academy is back for its second season June 3-8th June at the Etihad Campus (Manchester City training complex) where 42 hopefuls from non-league are looking to secure a professional contract.

Our man will be taking time away from his World Cup preparations to spend the day at the academy with his family on Friday 8th June.

Jamie will be watching the showcase matches alongside approx. 100 scouts looking for the ‘Next Jamie Vardy’. He will be leaving Elland Road on 7th June after the England v Costa Rica match and heading to Manchester to spend time with the players and staff.

Last year 6 players broke into the professional game: Danny Newton who scooped up all the player of year awards at Stevenage, scored 15 goals and is now attracting interest from championship clubs. Alex Penny went to League One Peterborough, Lamar Reynolds to Newport County, Blair Turgott to Stevenage, Mickel Miller to Hamilton and Elton Ngwatala to Dundee in the SPL. A seventh player, Elliott Durrell, will also be in the Football League next year with Macclesfield Town.

The academy is again being filmed by Zig Zag productions for a second series of the ‘Next Jamie Vardy’. Season 1 was aired last year on Sky One and Sky Sports to great acclaim. This year’s programme will have more focus on the events at the academy and follow last year’s success series as life as a professional footballer following the jump from non-league.

Jamie is again personally funding this year’s academy and is still very passionate about giving players the second chance and opportunity to follow in his footsteps.

‘After last years’ success, I wanted to build on what we achieved last summer and having watched Danny’s (Newton) and Alex’s (Penny) career develop and unfold this season I knew we had to be back this summer’

Gareth (Southgate) and Dan (Ashworth) have been extremely supportive of V9 and what I set out to achieve since day one. My focus is 100% on the World Cup with England but I must admit I’ve been keeping tabs on what players we have been signing for V9 and I can’t wait to see them in action next week’
