Sam McCallum signs new contract at Coventry City

KeySports would like to say a massive congratulations to Sam McCallum after he put pen to paper on a new deal at Coventry City today.

Sam’s rise into the pro game has been nothing short of meteoric. Playing in the Isthmian League in the eighth tier of English football after leaving Gillingham’s youth set-up, the then 17-year-old was almost resigned to a future as a semi-professional at non-league level.

But it was while playing for England schoolboys that his coach saw his potential and took matters into his own hands to point the rapid left-back in the direction of the Jamie Vardy Academy that showcases non-league talent to league clubs.

During the week long camp, Sam sparked the interest of a lot of football clubs, but it was the Sky Blues who won the race for his signature and Sam quite literally hasn’t looked back.

He made his debut for the Sky Blues first team in the Checkatrade Trophy, going on in the 55th minute and making an immediate impact. That was closely followed by his league debut when he made another appearance from the bench v Southend in December 2018.

Sam’s full league debut came in January this year when he started and played the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon. He has now appeared 7 times in all competitions this season.

This is just the beginning Sam, continue to Be Exceptional and the opportunities will continue to come.
