A further 5 years at Anfield for Joe Gomez
Our Liverpool star Joe Gomez has shown his commitment to Liverpool FC by putting pen-to-paper on a new 5-year contract at Anfield. Keeping him at the club until 2023.
Gomez told Liverpoolfc.com: “Signing this new deal means the world to me.
“I’ve been at the club a few years now and have had the pleasure to play for Liverpool and experience what that means, so I am delighted to get the chance to extend my contract here.
“I love the club, I love playing and learning here, and I am happy for that to continue.”
21-year old Joe joined the Reds in the summer of 2015 from Charlton Athletic and in those 3 years he has gone on to become one of England’s finest defenders.
Initially employed at full-back, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool heirachy always see the centre back position as his long-term future and this season has certainly proved that.
Alongside Virgil Van Dyke, Joe has formed a formidable partnership. A partnership that has seen the Reds reach the top of the Premier League unbeaten by December.
Unfortunately Joe sustained a leg fracture at the beginning of the month which will keep him on the sidelines for the next 6-weeks. We know that will Joe will comeback stronger and more focused to help Liverpool in what could be a successful season.
Congratulations Joe, its no less than you deserve with all the hard-work you put in and your dedication to the game.
