Dan Scarr completes move to Walsall

Walsall have completed the signing of Dan Scarr from Birmingham City on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Dan signed for Blues from Non-League club Stourbridge in January 2017, penning two-and-a-half year deal at St. Andrew’s.

Just before leaving, Dan played a major part in the Stourbridges’ historic run to the third round of the FA Cup, scoring twice in the ‘Proper’ rounds of the nation’s most prestigious knockout competition.

Scarr had initially joined Blues on trial, playing two matches for the Under-23s but an injury picked up soon after his arrival at the Club meant that he wasn’t able to build on that tally before the season’s end.

He spent a successful 2017/18 season on loan with League Two Wycombe Wanderers, where he made 26 appearances with the Chairboys, before his campaign was curtailed in March 2018 through injury. Dan returned to St. Andrews this season and has featured in 1 EFL Cup game.

Dan’s move to Walsall will see him go straight into the squad for the Saddlers Tuesday night trip to Plymouth Argyle.

“I’m happy to get it done and over the line and I can’t wait to start playing now,” said Scarr, who will wear shirt number 35.

“I’m the sort of defender who will go and attack everything and be dominant in the air. I will try to organise the backline and throw my body at everything because it means something.

“I like to call myself a no-nonsense defender because defending comes first. I like to try and play when I can to try and set the team on counter-attacks.

“Hopefully, I can add a winning mentality and help the side pick up a few good results, keep some clean sheets and work our way back up the table.”

Manager Dean Keates commented: “Dan will be a great addition to the squad. He’s someone we had a look at in the first window but he wasn’t available at the time.

“He’s come from non-league football and earned the right to get a move to the Blues. He had a good loan period last season at Wycombe and wants to progress his career, get out and get playing.

“He’s at the point now where he wants to play week in, week out and establish himself in the first team. He’s desperate to get playing.”

A great move for you Dan to showcase your many talents. Congratulations from us all at KeySports…Go Be Exceptional.
